Wednesday, September 2, 2026 · The nine questions this class is asking, and who is working on each
The four criteria
Teams were built from what you wrote in the research interest survey, on four criteria.
A similar question. Not the same one. Close enough that you are arguing about the same thing.
Some analysis experience on every team. Somebody has run one before.
Some shared programming language, so you can hand each other code.
Somebody likely to be self-driven, who will push it along.
These four pull against each other, and no set of nine teams satisfies all of them at once. Where they conflicted, the question came first.
If you think you are on the wrong team
You do not get to choose your group.
Email me by Friday with a reason, in writing, about the work.
The reason has to be about the question or the skills. Your question is genuinely the one another team is asking. Or you are the third person on your team who can do the same thing, and another team has none.
I have to agree, and a swap has to work both ways. Teams are four and five, so moving you moves somebody else.
Not a reason: my friend is on another team.
